Gentle, body-centred support wherever you are
Healing From the Core is a gentle, body-centred approach that allows us to work together remotely, wherever you are.
Rather than using physical touch, the work centres around presence, awareness and helping you become more connected with the information and sensations within your own body.
The approach recognises that we can sometimes become disconnected from what our body is communicating, particularly during periods of stress, change or overwhelm.
Healing From the Core offers a way to slow things down, become more present and gently explore what you are noticing without forcing a particular outcome.
Sessions take place remotely, so you do not need to travel to Middlefield Wellness Centre.
What Is Healing From the Core?
Healing From the Core® was developed by Suzanne Scurlock and is a body-centred approach based around presence, awareness and learning to listen more closely to the body’s internal information.
The wider Healing From the Core method places particular emphasis on grounding, healthy boundaries, Full Body Presence® and developing greater awareness of the body’s own internal guidance.
In my work, I use these principles to create a supportive space where you can become more aware of what you are experiencing physically and internally.
There is no need to arrive knowing what needs to change.
This Is Not Remote CranioSacral Therapy
Healing From the Core is my dedicated remote approach.
It is not remote CranioSacral Therapy, and it is not remote New Vision Therapy.
CranioSacral Therapy and New Vision Therapy are hands-on approaches that I provide in-person at Middlefield Wellness Centre.
Healing From the Core uses a different framework and does not require me to physically touch you.
This means we can work together while you remain comfortably in your own home.
Coming Back Into Your Body
Developing greater body awareness
We spend a great deal of time thinking about what is happening to us.
Healing From the Core encourages a different kind of attention.
Rather than immediately analysing an experience, you may be invited to notice what is happening within your body.
- Where do you feel supported?
- Where do you notice tension?
- What feels settled?
- What changes when you bring your attention to a particular area?
The Healing From the Core approach refers to this broader relationship with the body as Full Body Presence, with an emphasis on grounding and becoming more aware of bodily sensations and internal information.
There is no correct answer.
The process is about becoming curious about your own experience rather than being told what you should be feeling.
Grounding and Presence
Grounding is an important principle within Healing From the Core.
For me, grounding does not mean forcing yourself to become calm or suppressing what you are experiencing.
It is about developing a stronger sense of connection with yourself and the present moment.
As that awareness develops, it can become easier to recognise your own responses, boundaries and internal signals.
This fits closely with the way I approach nervous system regulation throughout my work.
What Happens During a Healing From the Core Session?
Your session takes place remotely by video.
You will need somewhere private and comfortable where you can sit or lie down without being disturbed.
At the beginning of the session, we will briefly talk about how you are and anything you would particularly like to explore.
From there, I guide the session through presence, observation and body-centred awareness.
I may invite you to notice sensations or areas of your body, explore what feels supportive, or simply stay with something that has drawn your attention.
There is no physical contact.
You remain in control throughout, and there is no requirement to produce a particular emotional or physical response.
Sometimes there may be conversation. At other times, there may be periods of quiet while you notice what is happening within you.
The session develops according to the individual rather than following the same process every time.

Do I Need to Talk About Difficult Experiences?
No.
Healing From the Core is not counselling or psychotherapy, and you do not need to retell or relive difficult experiences for us to work together.
You are always able to decide what you do and do not wish to talk about.
The focus can remain on what you are experiencing now, including what you notice within your body and what feels appropriate to explore.
Listening to Your Own Internal Resources
One of the aspects I particularly value about Healing From the Core is that the practitioner is not positioned as the person who has all the answers.
The work encourages greater connection with your own internal awareness and resources.
I may guide the process, ask questions or draw your attention to something, but I am not there to tell you what a sensation means.
What you notice belongs to you.
This can create space for curiosity rather than judgement.
The Body’s Wisdom Areas
Healing From the Core teaches a framework involving different areas of the body as sources of internal information and awareness.
Rather than treating these areas as diagnostic tools, I use body awareness as a way of helping you notice your own internal experience.
This might involve becoming aware of where you feel grounded, where you notice sensation or where your attention naturally goes during the session.
You do not need to understand this framework beforehand.
I will guide you through anything relevant as we work together.
Healing From the Core and the Nervous System
The nervous system is central to much of my work at Middlefield Wellness Centre.
Healing From the Core approaches this differently from my hands-on therapies.
Rather than physically working with the tissues of the body, we use presence, grounding and body awareness to explore how you are experiencing yourself in the moment.
The aim is not to force the nervous system into a particular state or promise an instant reset.
Instead, the work may support greater awareness of your responses and help create space for regulation and balance.
What Might I Experience?
There is no particular experience you are supposed to have.
Some people may notice sensations such as warmth, heaviness, lightness, movement or changes in their awareness of different areas of the body.
You may feel relaxed.
You may simply become more aware of something you had not previously noticed.
Or you may experience the session in a much quieter way.
There is no requirement for an emotional release, and no dramatic response is necessary.
Individual experiences vary.
Why Work Remotely?
Being at home can make this approach particularly accessible.
Stay Comfortable
You can choose a quiet space where you already feel at ease.
No Travel
You do not need to travel before or after your session.
Work From Anywhere
We can work together regardless of where you live.
Healing From the Core has a recognised distance-based strand within its own practitioner training framework, known as Distance Healing From the Core.
This is why I keep Healing From the Core clearly separate from my hands-on therapies.
The distance work has its own approach and framework rather than attempting to reproduce physical CranioSacral Therapy or New Vision Therapy through a screen.
My Approach to Healing From the Core
Healing From the Core fits naturally with the way I have come to work over many years.
My background in healthcare and complementary practice has taught me the importance of listening carefully and not assuming that I already know what another person needs.
In Healing From the Core, that listening extends beyond words.
I encourage you to notice your own sensations, responses and internal signals rather than relying entirely on somebody outside you to interpret your experience.
I provide guidance and support, but the process remains centred around you.
That is an important principle across all of my work at Middlefield Wellness Centre.
Healing From the Core and Other Therapies
Healing From the Core can stand alone as its own approach.
It does not need to be combined with CranioSacral Therapy, New Vision Therapy or another service.
However, there may be times when another approach is more appropriate for what you want to explore.
Hands-On Therapies
CranioSacral Therapy and New Vision Therapy are hands-on and take place in-person.
Postural Alignment Therapy
Available in-person or online, with a focus on posture, movement and personalised exercises.
Bio Resonance
Frequency-based wellness support that can also be provided remotely.
You do not need to work out which option is right by yourself.
Healing From the Core and Conventional Healthcare
Healing From the Core is a complementary wellness approach.
It is not psychotherapy, counselling, medical diagnosis or medical treatment.
I do not use it to diagnose mental or physical health conditions, and it does not replace appropriate medical or psychological care.
If you are experiencing symptoms or difficulties that require medical or mental health assessment, I may suggest seeking support from an appropriate healthcare professional.
